Canton Chapter hosts Harmony Foundation golf outing
On Sept. 20 the Canton, Ohio Chapter will host the first annual "Harmony in Fore" charity golf outing, supporting the Harmony Foundation. The Quarry Golf Club is one of the best courses in Ohio; all proceeds will be used to spread our love of barbershop to the next generation of singers.

Is there a link to your chapter's Web site on SingJAD?
We think that there are still a few JAD chapters that have developed their own Web sites but haven't notified the SingJAD Webmaster. In the chapter contact listings here on SingJAD, there's an entry for every JAD chapter - and if the chapter's name is underlined, a click on that link will take you to the chapter's own site. If your chapter doesn't have a site, or if we don't know the URL of your chapter's site, your chapter's name won't be underlined. You're hereby urged to go to the listing for your site, find your chapter, and verify that if you do have a Web site, the link is correct. Please to the listings and links here. And if your chapter doesn't have a Web site yet, find a member with even minimal Web-site-development skills, and browbeat him into creating one for you!

Here are the JAD chapter listings by state:

Updated listing of JAD's registered quartets
As the latest in an ongoing series of steps to provide more current information here on SingJAD, we've tried to bring the listing of JAD's Registered Quartets all the way up to June 2009 (yep, over a year ago). Starting with a listing received from the Mother Ship in Nashville, I've purged from the list all quartets whose registrations have expired, and added the quartets that were missing from the list here on SingJAD.

But...here's the thing: the information I've received from the Society does not include either contact phone numbers or Web-site addresses, and the contact listed in the Society's info (including e-mail address) is the guy who registered the quartet, not necessarily the guy you currently want to be your representative for the purpose of receiving inquiries about singing gigs. Plus, I have a nagging suspicion that the Society's listing may not be 100% accurate, but I'd never admit that publicly.

So...if you're a member of a JAD quartet that's registered with the Society, here's your responsibility: go to the JAD Registered Quartets page, and review your quartet's entry. If you see something you'd like to add or update, drop me an e-mail note by clicking the link that you'll find at the top or bottom of the page. Don't forget phone numbers and Web URLs, if you want them included. I'll update your entry right away. If you're registered but don't find your quartet listed here, first get in touch with Becca Box, Manager of Membership Services for the Society, and find out why your quartet wasn't listed on the "official" list that they sent me (current as of 19 June, according to them), then drop me a note with the required information, and I'll add your quartet right away. And if your quartet has disbanded (even if the name is still registered) and you'd like to have your listing removed from the JAD table (so you can stop getting those pesky phone and e-mail inquiries), drop me a note and I'll delete it, right away. Deal?

Thinking about hosting/running a JAD Convention?
The JAD Events Team has created a 35-page "Convention Manual" as a guide to assist those chapters interested in hosting a JAD Convention. This manual is to be used only as a guide, keeping in mind that every convention city offers unique opportunities. This manual was adapted from the "Central Ohio Prelims Committee Manual" jointly written by John Sommer and Bob Sommer. Here's where you can download a copy of the Convention Manual in pdf format.

And If you're into looking way ahead, and if your chapter might be interested in hosting the 2010 Convention, Greg Swann has published a Request For Proposals (RFP) to which you can respond as you get your information together for a bid. Here's the 2010 spring-convention-hosting RFP.

Visit the JAD Champs site
Thanks to Mike Sisk, whose persistence finally got the effort under way, and to Tim Speicher, who did the programming, and to Carl J. Cash, III, who contributed time and effort and pictures and names, we now have a segment of the JAD Web site that lists ALL of JAD's past District champs - quartets (regular, senior, and novice), choruses (large and small), and International champs (regular and senior quartets and choruses)! Check out the new JAD Champs Site! Next time you want to visit the site, you'll find a link to it under the District tab on the left-hand menu on every page - it's called JAD Champions.

Want your chapter's show listed in the SingJAD calendar?
If you want to have your chapter's show dates listed on the SingJAD calendar, just with the chapter name and the dates, as soon as you receive confirmation from the JAD Secretary that your payment has been accepted the date has been cleared. If there's information about the show on your chapter's Web site, please also mention that, and I'll include a link to your site. The JAD Secretary has promised to keep me more up-to-date on show clearances, but I may still only be getting updates in bunches from him. Please, though, don't send me a show notification until after fees have been paid and the date has been cleared by the JAD Secretary!
